Using the Site

You can navigate the fotos on my site in two ways:

1. Click on the Creative or Travel headings on the right to open a list of galleries below each heading, or,

2. Click on the + (plus) sign next to Creative or Travel to open a list in the main window. This list also has a brief explanation of what you'll find in the gallery and why I do am pursuing the idea.

Viewing the Pictures

When looking at the photographs you have to click each thumbnail to see them in the next size up. To see them full size, click on the image. This opens a larger version with no toolbar etc cluttering the place up. To return to the website click anywhere on the screen.

Brightness

My monitor, an Acer AL1906 flat screen, is set to about 40% brightness, which makes it pretty dark. You may find that some of the photos here are washed out or overly bright on your monitor. I spend a good eight hours or more looking at the screen and I've turned it down in the hope that it will not burn my eyes out of their sockets.

About Me

I won't bore you with details about me, but I like to think of myself as a combination of writer and photographic artist. I have been writing fiction for a good 20 years, mainly quite short stories and prose and am currently working on my first novel. As a photographer I've spent a lot of time working on abstracts and randomness in photography - i.e., trying to remove my preconceptions and expectations from the pictures I take, and to do something different. I work using a very simple methodology: one camera, one lens. For my band photos I never use flash but do use long exposures, slow shutter speeds and anything else I can think of to bring some of the dynamism of live music to photography.

Projects

My project for 2009, apart from finishing my novel, is my series called Fused, which uses dozens of photosof single and multiple objects to make one photo (http://davidsonmick.squarespace.com/fused/). In 2008 my main project was a series on performers, be they groups or individuals (http://davidsonmick.squarespace.com/project-2008/). In 2007 I started a self-portrait project with the idea of producing one every day, no matter how little time, light etc there is (http://davidsonmick.squarespace.com/self-portraits/).
